Genre:
Multipath Visual Novel
Story:
Yukari Fujisawa is a boy with very feminine looks. Even girls at school think of him only as a "good friend," but not as a boy at all.
His parents just left town because his father was transferred to another facility of the company he works for. Yukari decided to stay put on his own in order to continue studying there. In order to earn money for his living expenses, he has to find a part-time job. He ends up as a waiter at the restaurant "Platinum" that's famous for its bunny-suit waitresses. Even though the female manager of the restaurant originally wanted to employ another girl - and mistook Yukari for one because of his feminine looks as well as his name - right after she interviewed him for this job, she changed her mind and employed Yukari instead.
So, now Yukari faces a new world as employee of a prestigious restaurant, with a bunch of attractive bunny-girls as his colleagues. To his biggest surprise, one of them is even his cousin, Sae. But all the other waitresses [Hiromi, Ryo and Chimaki] as well as the manager [Akina] have surprises in store for him as well. If he plays his cards right, he'll get one of them to become his steady girlfriend that certainly wouldn't regard him as "just a friend".
Sound:
The 20 unique themes are played as background music in this game. Each of these themes expresses a special mood. None of them is related to a particular character.
In addition to the background music, there are also occasionally played environmental sounds, like the clicking of an unlocking door, footsteps and so on.
All of the characters, except the player's character Yukari, have the original japanese voice-acting.
Graphics and Animations:
The graphics are at a resolution of 640x480. Because this game's story is a comedy, the pictures are usually drawn in bright and lively colors.
Special CGs had been drawn for some particular scenes. If no such special drawing exists for the current scene, cels of currently present characters are superimposed over the image of the current location according to the present story development. Each character has several Cels displaying different poses, facial expressions and dresses. The changing facial expressions express the different moods of the characters quite well, even if they don't exaggerate.
Several but not all h-scenes are animated, so once again this trademark of ZyX is showing up.
Extras:
The in-game seen CG's are available in a gallery.
Also the H-scenes that have been watched in gameplay are available for direct reviewing.
All background music themes can be played from a digital jukebox, too.
My personal opinion:
My preferred story-genre in bishoujo game is comedy, because these games still can crack me up after I played a game with a more serious or even tragic storyline. But even if I am not depressed, a good comedy-bishoujo-game is still nice entertainment.
Before this game, I played two other games from Zyx that have been localized to the English language by G-Collections:
1.) Chain, a pretty well written crime-thriller
2.) Tsuki, a dark story about sexual domination
While I really enjoyed Chain (except the rather surreal setting that every girl had to have sex with the main character on her own accord), I wasn't too thrilled by Tsuki.
So, I was a bit unsure what to expect from "Do you like Horny Bunnies?". I knew in advance that it was meant to be a comedy and hoped for something like Kango Shicyauzo (a lighthearted nurse soap) from Trabulance.
To be honest, I wasn't really disappointed, but I would really have liked to trade the animations that are typical elements of ZyX-games for the exaggerated facial expressions of the characters that are typical for games made by Trabulance. I feel that exaggerated expressions are special elements that enhance the entertaining effect of a comedy, because they tell with refreshing sincerity what the character thinks without words. But perhaps, that's just me...
However, the stories telling how Yukari learns to know all the girls and their special features have their fair share of comical scenes as well as romantic and/or exciting events. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this game. Each of the girls has a special and surprising sexual obsession, but every one is in her own way amiable.
Do I like horny bunnies?
Yes, I do!
Do I like them more than the Nurses of Kango Shicyauzo or the waitresses in Tottemo Pheromone?
No way! But that may depend on my personal taste because I prefer the graphic style in Trabulance's games. But I know of other people that complained of other special features of Trabulance's games; for example, almost every male genital remains invisible, or looks like a gust of wind in a comic. At least, these people would sure like these horny bunnies more.
So, as my final word to this game:
It's not going to become one of my favourites, but I still like it and I am already looking forward to the localization of the sequel, even if it's not yet announced.
